It is an honor to have been approved by the Third Municipal District Judicial Screening Panel as a candidate for Judge of the Civil Court of the City of New York.
My broad range of professional experiences and long term involvement in the community have provided me with the legal skills and temperament to be an effective and impartial Civil Court Judge.
I have practiced law for seventeen years in both small firms and as a solo practitioner, maintaining a general civil litigation practice that focuses on matrimonial and family law, real estate, wills and estates and personal injury. My legal experience has been extremely varied, permitting me to represent clients from different walks of life, and socio-economic backgrounds. My practice has always included a pro bono component, to help those who would otherwise be unable to afford legal services. I believe these services demonstrate my sense of fairness, equality and personal desire to assist those in need.
I have over a decade of experience volunteering as an arbitrator for the New York City Small Claims Court and as an arbitrator for the Better Business Bureau, where I hear and settle cases. I have acted as a volunteer mediator in the New York City Small Claims Court facilitating litigants resolve their own disputes. I also act as a Special Master in the Supreme Court, New York County where I work closely with lawyers and litigants in preparing discovery orders, conducting conferences and facilitating settlement conferences.
Throughout my career I have volunteered my legal services to many organizations while maintaining a busy private practice. I have, for example, volunteered for the New York County Lawyers Association Uncontested Divorce Project; for the Lesbian and Gay Law Association for Greater New York’s (“LeGaL’s”) Walk-In Legal Clinic; General Counsel to the Greater Long Island Running Club; and also for Assemblymember Daniel O’Donnell’s Tenant Clinic. These unique opportunities have allowed me to work in different capacities and have expanded the depth of my legal experience and knowledge. More importantly, they have provided me with the opportunity to help create a just and safe society and help those who are disenfranchised.
Over the course of my career I have realized the importance of the judiciary and have a profound respect for our court system and the role that it plays in peoples lives. I believe that my broad experience, my commitment and compassion make me uniquely qualified to serve as a Civil Court Judge. It would be an honor to serve on the judiciary.
I would be pleased to have your support for my candidacy.
